Handmade in Alabama--Amy C. LeePard

The book project that I am working on is called Handmade in Alabama and it is a three book box set.  The books feature Miller Pottery, Estella Jackson Basketmaker and Maxwell Banjo Company.  All three are generational craftsmen/women with at least three generations invested in the crafts of pottery, basketmaking and woodworking.  The books are photo narratives with excerpts from interviews as the introduction and conclusion to the photo narrative.  The photography is all my original photography. Randy Arnold and I conducted the interviews. (except for the interview for Maxwell Banjo Company which will be conduted by filmmaker Rick Olson who is doing a film on Randy and his banjo making).

The books are all handbound in a limited edition, letterpress printed on my handmade cotton paper and enclosed in a handmade custom clamshell box.  The set is scheduled to be completed by March 2009.

I intend to submit the work to a national juried show called Marking Time, a two year traveling show hosted by the national Guild of Bookworkers.  It is a juried show so inclusion of my work is not definite.
