Sponsored by the Museum on Main Street program and the Alabama Humanities Foundation. it is currently in Livingston and will journey afterward to Chatom, Fort Payne, Troy and Tuskegee following its glorious opening in Tuscumbia in March 2009. It explores the roots of American music - telling the story of its people and culture through the melodies that define it. The exhibition provides a fascinating look at the American story of multi-cultural exchange. Of special interest are the exhibits and programs created by the host communities featuring their own local roots music. Traveling with the Smithsonian exhibit is a colorful, artistic portrayal of the important musical traditions of Alabama, which was commissioned by the Alabama Humanities Foundation and produced by Fred Fussell, scholar, and Ted Whisenhunt, artist.
