Alabama in the Making: Traditional Arts of People and Place features the people of Alabama, whose faces, voices, stories, and music present the traditions of their families and communities. Whether stirring chicken stew, building a Mardi Gras float, gathering pine needles for basket making, singing gospel, or stitching a quilt, Alabamians reveal how Alabama is made.

Five interactive kiosks each represent a region of the state: the Gulf Coast, Tennessee Valley, Black Belt, Wiregrass, and Southern Appalachia. In a hands-on, interactive experience, participants encounter recordings and images from research conducted by the Alabama State Council on the Arts, Alabama Community Scholars Institute, Alabama Public Television, and additional folklorists and archivists.
